just watched the movie, and overall I was disappointed. The message was good, But it was a white savior movie. Going into this I felt this would be the outcome just knowing the history of the riot girl movement and how it excluded Poc and LGBTQ+ voices and I was right. The people at the school don’t see an issue with everything happening until the white lead “decides to do something about it” even though the woman of color at the school had been discussing the issues for awhile. The movie shows diversity but when it comes to actually discussing it, it fails miserably. There’s one kiss scene between two ladies randomly and it’s never discussed again. A trans woman who was being discriminated against by her teachers and casting directors brings this up and guess what it’s never discussed again other than a scene with her singing and the casting director looking at each other and smiling, we don’t know if she got the part, we don’t know if her teachers stopped dead naming her. The main lead learns to stand up from a poc, tell me why this character is shoved aside and reduced to a follower even though she’s the first one to stand up. Not even that, she’s only there’s for the white lead to become radicalized and become a leader of the movement. This movie is just another example of white feminism and it’s exclusion of minorities and minority issues. I explained this rlly bad because i’m rushing but if anyone finds this comment and wants me to explain more i’ll do so.

This has to be the most harmful, regressive, painful feminist film I've ever seen. It some how manages to be an anti feminist film about feminism and continuously mocks feminists throughout the whole production. Watching this, you could almost see the thought process behind how "woke" they were trying to appear without giving any real substance to the movie. it was disappointing to say the least. awful film.

Found on Reddit: "An ambitious work of magical-realism in which the protagonist - tumblrina as tumblrina imagines herself - projects by hallucination the social and sexual mores of her middle-aged mother's 80s childhood onto her own. Meticulously diverse, the film's chorus of forgettable supports linger colourfully, if without lines, as focus tightens on the most privileged demographic category in the United States: the country's "right-on," upper-middle class bores (white female edition). If you're hoping for anything more than a tedious affirmation of rich-folk opinion, packaged with just enough mute colourful people to satisfy demographic bean-counters, then better luck next time. (Amy Poehler is a fine actress.)"

This movie was terrible.. If the Black Jock (who was more of a jerk) was the lead the entire story would have fallen apart because only White People can be "the patriarchy". If the main "White patriarchal" guy was even SLIGHTLY less of a jerk, the whole story would fall apart.. EVEN the lead Woman who created Moxie got accused by her best friend since they were 4 of not understanding because she's White. It's completely ridiculous, not inspiring. How about men and women just treat each other with all due respect and stop all the victim BS. PS: If you actually ARE a victim, I'm not talking about you.

This reminds me of when one of my students (she was 10 or 11yo) asked me, a few months ago, if it was okay if she took off her sweater (she was getting hot) because she was wearing a tank top underneath. At first I did not understand why she would ask me that and then I got it, and it made me so sad. So I told her that it was totally okay and that she should not have to ask for permission.

The whole anachronistic premise of this movie doesn't make sense. Who is going to publish a "zine" in 2021, where would they find a free photocopier, and who would pay attention to a piece of paper when everyone is glued to their phones? This movie should have been set in 1992 as an inspirational period piece instead. If you want to watch a great movie that empowers young women, check out "Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains" from 1981. It had a huge influence on the early 90 Riot Grrl movement for which Poehler is obviously nostalgia mining.

@gigi I understand that what he said about feminism was rude, but you are only appealing to the modern stereotypes about feminists. If a man were to say "I hate women" he would be called misogynistic and receive a lot of backlash. I don't agree with his statement but yours does not make it better. I just wanted to remind you feminism should mean equality, not normalizing statements like this. - sincerely, another girl~ Also, I hope you're having a blessed day!❤️
